Lately, my husband has found his new obsession in assembling Gundam Models. One day he asked me to accompany him at National Bookstore to buy for some tools. So while he was busy finding his things, my eyes were caught by these art materials (on display) at the center island. Weird as it may seem, but that very moment I had a flashback of when I started to have an eye for paintings. Particularly paintings on canvasses.
When was this?
Three decades ago, my father owns a huge painting from Italy. We have a replica of The Last Supper plus two nature slash landscape portrait being displayed and framed at the dining area. Every meal time, I remember staring at it and got moved by it. And that's when I started to do some sketches on pads. But I honestly didn't like the results of my handwork so I stop (hehe). I sure have an eye for paintings even when I was a little girl but never had painted anything seriously, until five weeks ago.
The beginning of my painting journey - A continuation of self discovery.
And so I bought my very first canvas board, acrylic paint and few paint brushes and begun to do my very first artwork. Later on, I started to collect more art materials to use and buy it whenever I have spare money. It was something I didn't plan to do but the appreciation I got from my art works are overwhelming and it was unexpected. It wasn't supposed to be exposed since I am doing it as a hobby but I think my husband got overwhelmed by my works (hehe) so he posted it and made an album on his facebook account. He said he's proud of my work, so it was such a humbling act I cannot say no. I received so many good feedbacks, telling they want to try it as well. Got to appreciate the likes and positive feedbacks but to be able to inspire others is priceless.
Up to date I have done 10 paintings already, two of which I painted on my DIY Canvas bag. And since I do not have a concrete wall to display everything, I decided to put a separate page of it here on my blog. Here is the first set of my Paintings.
March - April 2017 Collection
1st - "Just Before Autumn"
My very first acrylic painting. I was trying to do a decent tree here with a background of a clear blue sky. The photo doesn't capture the mountain shadows from the background, maybe because of the lighting but it does have a silhouette of the mountains at the background below. I have my own interpretation for this piece. What do you think? what's your perception on this one?
2ND - Pensiero Profondo" (DEEP THOUGHTS)
I painted this when I was suffering from severe headache maybe due to emotional turmoil or stress. During this time I had so many things to shout about but couldn't express how I feel so I decided to paint. This particular piece has become my outlet. Believe it or not, I was free from all the pain and stress after finishing this piece.
3rd - "Pink"
A photorealism art work by yours truly. I saw this one on FB Ads and was got so amazed of it's beauty. Since Japan is one of the country I dream of visiting one day I decided to paint it. It's my goal to achieve it and this painting will be my motivation.
4th - "CITYSCAPE"
Painted this one after we got back from our short trip to HK. I got so inspired by our travel and was on a hype when I started painting, But since it was my first time to draw and paint a cityscape I was quite having a hard time getting the design I want for some of the buildings. There's always a first time hahaha... but I got so amazed by how lovely and clean HK Harbour is, so got to incorporate it on my painting. This is no photorealism kind of painting. This was pure imagination, based of how I wanted to remember the places I've been to in HK. You won't find this view at any point from TST because it was a combination of three different sites.
5th - "The Bench"
I got to finished all canvas board I had bought and 'was still on the mood to paint so I grab two of my unfinished DIY Canvas bag hehehe... I painted it with this. MY main goal was to paint an old, weary and rustic kind of bench with flowers surrounding it. I was not totally happy with how I painted the flowers but was able to achieve my goal for the bench. I was able to express myself for this one so it's a 50/50 thing. Hehehe
6th - "THE VIEW"
This particular painting means a lot to me. It represents one of those bittersweet period of my life. Until now, I still cannot express what really transpired during that time. I considered this piece as the simpliest of all. But it shouts loudly and proud. At least for me... hehehe
7th - "PURPLE SKY"
This is my second photorealism art piece. Saw this from the internet and still using it as my desktop wallpaper, I started to appreciate the color purple or any shade of violet, for some reasons. It depicts stronghold and I wanted to get that vibe. I love how the white balances everything in between. More of like darkness and the light ☺
8th - "THE FARM"
I started and finished this one a night when COLDPLAY in Manila was happening. We weren't lucky to get a ticket for the concert and so I made myself busy doing this one. I wanted to remove those negative feelings to get back to me and all was looking forward to have a relaxing night. My imagination brought me to this place from our province in Bicol. Not exactly the same view by the way. I painted the farm in a way I wanted it to be like and of how I want the feeling to be remembered. I love how it turned out.
9th - "Untouched"
I was on a calm state three days ago and so I started to do another nature/landscape art piece. I really love waters and greens but doesn't have a concrete idea of what to paint (hope you get what I mean... hehe gulo ko diba). So I let may imagination flow freely. This was basically a product of pure imagination. I didn't know what to do at first so I just painted grasses and trees until waterfalls came out. My father commented in one of my paintings saying to add birds, butterflies and bees the next time. So I grab that idea and put it in here, hehe.. I just include flowers and plants to give it that untouched, hidden garden feels. Hope you feel it too while looking at this picture.
10th - Recreating "A Walk in the Rain" (Original paint by - Paint with Jane)
The latest and probably the last painting for this week (?). I have not tried doing abstract painting before. I do not have any proper training also but I want to explore so I would know what I can and cannot do. My concept was a girl walking in a rain and there are lots of it in the internet hehe but I stumbled upon this comprehensive tutorial in youtube entitled "Painting with Jane" channel. I watched her video tutorial. At the last part of the video, she was encouraging viewers to do it as well ,so I did. But I have chosen to use a different palette (in blue, black & white) and so this is the result of my very first abstract painting.
Orange is not something I usually pick for colors but this one blends well with the background so I believe I made a good choice. It gives a different feel, something atypical but good.
I am happy with the result and might try to do some more abstract paintings too in the coming weeks. I never thought I can do it, but I tried and it gives me comfort. To be able to express my imagination, my feelings even without saying a word.. this is my kind of freedom of expression - PAINTING.
