We bought a gift for a friend who recently got married. Since they will be starting their new life abroad we thought of giving them a luggage bag which they can use. My husband's idea was just to put a ribbon instead of wrapping it on a paper material and so I agreed. I thought I can simply buy ribbons anywhere and did not even bother to get one earlier. As expected I couldn't find a store selling a ribbon big enough for the gift (available in store was only at standard size). Good thing I know how to create one - a pom pom ribbon bow (with no sweat :)
For this project you'll be needing the following tools that are easy to find and are inexpensive. I used white since that's the motif, you may use whatever color your prefer.
MATERIALS:
- White with Gold Lining Ribbon (any color will do - bought this in Lianas Alabang 3.50 Php per 1 Meter / 5 Meters = 17.50)
- A scissor
- A measuring tape
- A Note Card (1.50 Php)
PROCEDURES:
1. Measure at least 15 to 20 cm in diameter and start looping the ribbon for 8 times to create a total of 16 loops all in all. Trim down the excess ribbon. (Better to leave at least 2 inches of allowance)
2. Bring two sides of the loop together and fold the ribbon in half (vertical). Make sure that four corners are equal. Start cutting the edges diagonally with about 1 cm width in each side. Be careful not to cut to large and too much from the edges. Unfold it and meet two notches together and bring it to the center.
3. Trim down a piece of about 15 to 20 cm long from the excess ribbon and tie around the notch. Ensure to tie properly or better yet double tie it so the ribbon will stay in place. Now you have two sides of the ribbon.
4. This step calls your creativity and imagination. Hold firmly the middle of the ribbon (where the notch is located) and start pulling the ribbon from one side (left side if you wish) and start pulling out the loops one by one from one side to another side in an upward manner.
5. Continue to pull out the ribbon alternately (left to right). Repeat the procedure on the opposite (right) side of the ribbon once you're done with the other. Pull upward and twist every after loop and make sure to have them pulled away from each other to make the pom pom effect.
Project Cost: Less than 20 Php :) PERFECT!
