A NOVICE IN FLOW RIDING (FLOW HOUSE MANILA EXPERIENCE)

I've always wanted to learn how to surf. Unfortunately, I do not have the time and means to accomplish it for such a long time, hopefully soon (crossed fingers). But when I heard FLOW House Manila had opened it's door late last year, I made sure to include it on my bucket list this 2016. It may not be surfing per se but since flow riding has an element of surfing and any other water board sports, I thought it was a good alternative. Besides it's always nice to learn something new, right? :) Two months ago, I was able to be experience flow riding and I couldn't be happier.

On the second day of our birthday/wedding anniversary celebration, My husband and I went to Flow House Manila in Molino, Cavite. We arrived at the venue around eleven thirty in the morning and saw few American guests.

We were greeted by the staff at the front desk, requested us to read and fill up the form and watched the short video being shown. The video is all about flow riding, pros and cons and some other safety precautions/ tips on how to enjoy our ride. We booked ourselves at one pm slot. Yup, you read it right guess will be asked for their preferred time slot. This is to provide an equal time for all the guest to learn and fully experience the ride.

So why on earth do we booked ourselves on the hottest hours of the day? he he
Well, it wasn't a scorching kind of day when we reached Flow House Manila. We have settled ourselves beforehand that we will get tanned (he he). So while waiting for our turn, we tried Flow Manila's well recommended Nachos Grande (260.00 Php) and iced tea (50.00/each) to quench our thirst.

I appreciate how cheesy Nacho Grande is... The servings are huge! :)

Flow House Manila is perfect venue for anyone who likes to experience flow boarding, whether you may be a novice or professional flow rider, I think you will be able to enjoy your every ride. Well, I do. The platform where artificial waves pumped out are made of an inflatable soft rubberized materials so it wouldn't hurt that much I supposed ha ha ha..

The plat form w/out water and when the artificial waves comes out.

For our very first try, coach (sorry I forgot her name... my bad)... asked us to sit at the edge where the water comes out, lean back and put both of our hands at our nape for support. Then we let ourselves swept away by the waters, sliding up to the other end. It was so fun we were laughing our hearts out.

Now for some serious matters... hehehe

Since we took only an hour for flow ride, coach taught us to do the stand up board immediately. I couldn't say No because like what she said what's the point of experiencing flow riding without doing the hardest flow board style up front (for our age of course he he he). So I ask my husband to do it first because I am still trying to have a moment to capture all the strength and energy I can get to accomplish it ha ha ha.

My turn, it looks easy on the photo but in reality it isn't (ha ha ha) bear with me I am a neophyte. The techniques, styles and stunts I'll leave with the professional flow riders, I am pretty sure they can do it without a sweat.

Here are some of the happenings caught on cam...

We took the chance to learn the stand up board first and later the body boarding. Coach thought we can do it so off we go.

With the help of Coach and the rope

Time to sleep este I was swept away

Good thing I was able to capture my husband doing the stand up board without the rope.
Bravo.... he forgot to capture mine but took a video of it plus the epic face plant. Ha ha
Poise pa more moment
The body boarding... Forget about my face here...
I'm not sure whether this is an eager to learn look or having a hard time look..
 hahaha
I was able to do the stand up boarding, my goodness it was the hardest but thanks to our coach. I was able to move from one side to the other side flowing on the waves and later on letting myself wiped out by it. I was able to do the body boarding but forgot to try kneeling and drop down position he he he... So maybe next time...

The one hour flow ride, use of facilities at 650.00 Php was epic and worth it. We were be able to enjoy our dipped at their mini pool a relaxing place to stand by right after the adrenaline rush.

Happy me :)

The Flow House Manila experience was one for keeps. It was my first time to do flow riding and had such an epic face plant in my entire existence caught on cam (ha ha ha). To tell you honestly it causes a lot of body pain (felt it a day after) but it was all worth the experience. Anyway I always believe in the saying "No Pain - No Gain".

Aside from the techniques and styles, I was able to learn something new about myself as well (yup, self discovery again. Wooot wooot.. :) physically and mentally by the way. The part were I was able to know my tolerance, strength and edge, keeping a positive mind and high spirit while in pain. Both a fun and learning experience for me.

Reminder for those who wish to try:
  • It's a physical sports and the wipe out can break and make you so be very careful and attentive at your own risk.
  • I experienced some muscle pain particularly on my neck, nape and hip area but it was bearable. The pain naturally went away after three to four days. Gladly I didn't took any pain reliever, enough rest helps a lot.
No matter how many times I fall, I will continue to stand up and bring my composure back, I am one strong willed woman. - by mmtanguanco
