BOODLE FEAST - BOODLE FIGHT! (MAMA'S BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION)

Mama's birthday is one of our most anticipated family gathering. It started in 2011 when we throw a simple celebration for her at home. A year after 2012 we went out of town for some swimming activity. On the third year, we spent and celebrated her birthday in Tagaytay with what my niece called "field trip" because we have visited Tagaytay tourist spots, eat and play at tagaytay park and enjoyed our moment at NUVALI. Last year, we had our family official photo shoot.

For this year we decided to throw a back to back swimming slash family outing slash birthday party as a gift for her. It was supposed to be a surprised party but then later I was instructed by my siblings to tell Mama about our plans so she can clear out her schedules too. It was a simple yet intimate family gathering as we have prepared and arranged a military style of eating called "BOODLE FIGHT" at lunch time.

It was our first time to set up a boodle feast. At first we were skeptical about the idea since the kids are not aware of what it is all about. Then later we change our mind and agreed to proceed with our plan. Besides the potluck are mostly composed of grilled menu items just perfect for summer.

An hour before lunch time we started to arrange and prepare the Boodle Feast. It was easy actually, we just positioned one long table (provided by the resort) and laid out a pile of clean banana leaves on top of it. Put some newly cooked rice in the middle, then one by one piled up the potluck recipes around and on top of it. While broth and other food items with sauces where place in a container and place it on the sides of the table.

We were supposed to use two long tables but later decided one is enough for our group.
At lunch time, we called in everybody to position themselves around the lunch table. After the prayer and singing happy birthday to our dearest Mama, the kids excitedly and curiously got in to their seats and started asking how are they going to eat (ha ha)..

We then introduce to them what BOODLE FIGHT is and taught them how to do it. We're happy that the kids were able to pick up the idea quickly and in no time we saw them peacefully eating their meals with the clean bare hands.

Some of the food (potluck) we have shared together over the boodle fight were tokwa't baboy, mojos, red egg with tomatoes, pork barbeque, breaded bacon cut, veg. salad, fish balls, grilled stuff bangus, grilled hotdog, chicken kebab, sinigang na gabi, fish fillet and many more.

The adults came next and we did enjoyed our Boodle fight lunch together.

Everyone was full and no one was left out (all of us are winners). Mama was wearing her beamish smile that day. I believe she felt our love and appreciation towards her and we are equally glad that she had a great time. We're also glad that we have brought "BOODLE FIGHT" at Mama's Birthday party, the set up was something new to us, especially for the kids but that's why the party became more enjoyable, fun and intimate. More than just the party it was definitely a celebration to remember.

Cheers to my family, especially to MAMA!!!
