EASY WAY TO REPAIR BROKEN CHILDREN'S BOARD BOOKS

I started collecting flip-flap board books for my daughter six months after I gave birth. The first educational books I bought were Alphabet, Letters, Numbers, Shapes, Colors and Animals. I found it at a bargain with a relatively cheaper price (80.00 Php) I didn't have a hesitation to buy all six at once. They were adorable!
with all these colorful and cute drawings and some flip box  illustrations. Upon seeing it I knew it was a good buy. I thought it will be a great help for my daughter during cognitive development years. Reading and going through the pages of each books has become our regular bonding time. Years passed and with all the flipping, throwing, tearing, biting (yes biting included), the books became tired and unattractive I decided to stored it together with our old stuff.

After more than a year in the storage room, I revisited the old box and found the time-worn books again. Suddenly I became sentimental, remembering the feeling I had when I bought it. I decided to repair the torn pages and somewhat restore it to its original form.

TIMEWORN BOARD BOOKS

Torn Pages of the Flip Flap Board Books

HOW TO REPAIR

  • I collected the tools and supplies: Scissor, clear tape and white adhesive tape.

  • Since I will be repairing a glossy board book I replace glue (typically use for book repairs) with clear tape. This way I can easily repair the spine from the outside. Grouped, aligned and attached each loose pages accordingly and simply put tape on both front and back cover.

  • The next thing I did was to tape each loose pages from the inside.  On every flap, I use white adhesive tape to secure both pages while maintaining its alignment with the rest.

  • Once done attaching all loose pages from inside of the book, I doubled secure the front page with the use of white adhesive tape.

  • Flatten the tape to the book using the back of the scissor. (need to exert an extra force from your hand on this method.)

To finish it off, I trimmed the excess tape on both edges.

and finally I am done repairing all six board books! Time to test how sturdy it was... flip, flap, off we turn the pages... hehehe

Perfectly done ;)

Good to see these books came to life again. ♥
