Our bedroom makeover is coming to an end. Three more pieces to arrive and it will have its final look. So I guess it's about time to share with you how we were able to come up with our design. In this project, we ultimately wanted to achieve THREE things...
1. To recreate our bedroom space and turn it a haven (at least for us).
Well, our space had gone through this phase. A phase where it continually had to gain more items than the necessary year after year. Which I, personally loose control at and had no time to worry about until this year. Until the messiness and disorganization had taken toll of our health and emotions. Coz you know, what happens next when you got home tired and restless from work only to find your bed full of clutter. Who doesn't want a nice and comfortable bedroom to come home to after a long and tiring day? right? Ideally, you are craving for a place where you can relax and peacefully bond with our loved ones before calling it a day. ( I don't need to elaborate I believe hehe)
I don't know if it comes with age (hahaha) but I just feel we needed a change. I was eager to feel that serenity from within, to at least have the chance to regain my energy day after day. The best place to have it is at our own bedroom space where quietness and privacy should be. I know we cannot have it unless we move and make it happen.
2. To make a comfortable, clutter free and functional space.
So one day, I woke up and took a picture of our room leaving it as is the night before because I was so tired and all. I took a picture of its previous situation corner by corner, side by side. And from there, looking at the picture I realize we badly needed a makeover. Thus the project has begun.
I couldn't claim it as a comfortable space because honestly, It wasn't. I was not comfortable looking at the pictures either. I am seriously having a headache trying to figure out how to put everything in place and doing it over and over again. I almost gave up looking at the computer table where my husband toys, (okay) let me re phrase that, where my husband's art collection are eating up space. I didn't even have a space to work with my laptop in there. With my daughter's toys lying on the floor every now and then as if they have their own feet, they move on they're own (that would be scary if it does literally haha).
What we did to accomplish it:
- First was to remove all the clutter. Not just by putting it away from our sight but to ultimately IDENTIFY EVERY ITEM WE OWN AND KNOW IT'S PURPOSE. IF IT HAS NO USE, IT HAD TO GO.
- The second was to categorize the items we have left and MAKE SURE IT HAS A PLACE TO BE KEPT OR DISPLAY. Most of the items we donate, trash go to trash and some were kept neatly organized.
- The third one was to make our bedroom functional. His side, my side, our daughter's side and a common area. We created a sectional, where we can easily recognize, what goes in this area and how this space will function for us. WE HAVE TO HAVE SPACE TO BOND AND ALSO SPACE WHERE WE CAN CULTIVATE OUR INDIVIDUALITY.
Then, of course, we needed to work on the aesthetic side. Which were basically repainting, furniture rearranging, accessorizing etc.. etc. Just to keep us motivated on a daily basis. It's a good feeling to wake up in the morning and see some of the things that matter to us (both tangible and intangible). And so, like what I have mentioned on my previous blog, I go on with the Azure vibe. I must say the repainting job (DIY) did a huge lift but of course it doesn't end there.
Since I was the mastermind of this transformation, of course with the permission and support of my husband. I was able to create the mood board. Just to ensure everything will work according to plan.
I am no interior designer and we are working on a budget. I had to work with the available resources I have, including my imagination, ladies, and gentlemen (hehe). Grab some inspiration from Pinterest (lifesaver) and attempted to do some mini DIY.
So far we were able to capture what I have in mind and basically incorporate it on our bedroom makeover. Hope once I publish the final reveal you'll be able to see some things from this mood board as well. It was kind of unusual combination, I know. Just like me and my husband LOL.
3. To have an improved lifestyle.
The transformation didn't come in one single snap (how I wish.. hahaha). It was a collective effort. To maintain it is also a religious effort. It's been (5) months since we started this project, slowly the transformation has become evident and being felt. I must say the system is now in place. Not picture perfect most of the time but at least easier to keep things organize every now and then. Thus no more mainit ang ulo ni mom dahil sa kalat (hahaha). Keeping our bedroom space neat and organized is no longer a demand but a practice, should I say becoming a lifestyle.
And I truly hope it would stay pleasing in the eye for the longest time. The best thing about it, everything becomes natural and in the process, we are also learning.
