As a recap, for the last three to four years, our bedroom paint were left unfinished. We also had a huge dilemma of hoarding a huge amount of items for years I struggle to keep things organize in such a long period. The result was overwhelming, just look at the BEFORE pictures below and you'll understand. The clutter and disorganization of things, it only added up unnecessary burden especially on my part. Until I decided to do some changes and truly feel that it is about time to do that leap.
It started last year thru practicing closet organization. Little by little I started realizing that changes really comes from within. The first few months I am struggling, but I never gave up. There were times that I really pushed myself to get up and make sure everything is in place. I make sure that my clothes are well organized from time to time. I started doing it on my own at first. Until such time I felt it's already in my system. I realised, I just needed to acknowledge that there really is a problem. Madalas kasi iniisip natin okay lang yan, simple lang naman yan, damit lang naman yan pero hindi lang pala ganun "lang" yun. In a way, those we thought or usually define as "petty things", normal lang na magulo is also a reflection of who we are. And I didn't want to be like that, I refuse to be one so I had a change of heart. I made up my mind and commence the Bedroom Makeover Project.
A makeover with limited budget and intermittent working periods, finally! our bedroom makeover reveal is here.
Let's me start to show you the before and after pictures of each corner in the bedroom.
Beginning from the ENTRYWAY.
From the bedroom door towards the closet area. This is how it looks like before. Unfinished paint, hanging items on the wall and clutter all around. Overwhelming stuffs trying to sit in together.

Today, this is how it looks like...
Here's a closer look... As for the clothes inside, I am happy that we manage to keep our closet well organized . Naging practice na laging nakatupi ng makatarungan (haha) ang mga damit.

The little walk in space in between are now open and free from clutter (tambak). I hang up a wooden curtain rod and insert some S Hooks more additional storage. It is where our used, by not so dirty jeans are being kept and some other stuffs for hanging. The hanging organizer was a DIY Project by me btw. :) The space above the cabinet serves as a storage for non frequently used items such as documents, travel bags, husband's gundam boxes and some other stuffs we often use.

The framed quote I posted on the wall in the little walkin corner we have. Serves a reminder to always keep maintain cleanliness and organization as possibly as we can. |
We relocated Mckenzie's old cabinet and was being used for other purposes from outside the bedroom. While getting a new cabinet was a big decision (mainly because it eats up a lot from the budget) I decided to buy it anyway and it really made a huge difference. I can truly say, it was a good buy. I was able to use it not only for display but also with multiple functionality.

I also created these two small projects and attached it at the back of the door. Anything that we need to remember or take note of should be placed or attached directly on these boards.
WINDOW & BEDSIDE CORNER
Turning towards the left side where the huge drywall and window are located. The area was supposed to function as our entertainment, working area (thus computer table exist). However, we weren't able to use it purposely due to its situation. My husband's collection has eaten up the table space. Electrical cables spreads messily on the floor. On the further end you'll see a shoe cabinet which we converted into a console table/cabinet. On the wall was this puzzle which McKenzie owns and some of her activity papers. And no, we keep that wall clean, however those white spots you see seems to make it looks uneven and untidy. But that was seven months ago.
Today, here is the current situation on that side of the bedroom.
For the window, I hang up a combination of Gold and White 96" long curtain. On the side of the shelvings below, I added up a few decor stem twigs and placed one guitar on the other side. I somehow did not gave justice to the twigs in this pic though hehehe...
We achieve a functional working table nowadays. It serves as entertainment corner most of the time. The husband's collection is now being kept on a real display shelvings. Electrical cables are kept organized and some items like crafts and tools are kept inside that cute Paris printed box neatly.
As much as I wanted to do a symmetrical arrangement for this bedroom, I couldn't do so mainly because of the limited space. Therefore, we kept the bed on it's original position, pushed in one corner, against the wall. It's a full bed so it serves either a big couch during day time and bed at night.
As for the wall, we chose to paint it blue. The huge wall against the bed was also a focal point. That's why we decided to give it some love and create a DIY Brick Wall (faux). It becomes a feature wall. If you remember, I mentioned the dilemma we have for this particular wall, it was an eyesore before. However, by creating a faux brick on it, the white spots somehow gave us that rough, distressed and industrial kind of look.
Now how about Mckenzie's little space?
Next to bed is where Mckenzie's toys are being kept. Before it was her play corner. But with too many toys it's really a sore in the eye. Imagine the scenario whenever she prefers to laid down all her toys on the floor. (Hawi-hawi nalang para makadaan) Hehehe
But now, this is what McKenzie's little corner new look.
A corner where she can play, do her homework and even entertain her playmates. Wonder where all her toys go? She actually donated most of her toys to other kids in the neighborhood. Those she prefers to keep will stay and will be kept inside that storage bench. We also gave her a new study table as she also donated her old orange table and chairs. The big floor pillow were also donated. I love how this corner came into life it was actually my favorite spot as of the moment. Very minimalist, neat looking and conducive for learning.
THE CEILING
The ceiling however has been like this for years. There's nothing fancy really but it also needs a good touch of makeover too.
And finally, we have a clean white painted ceiling. We removed the old rectangular casing and leave the round led bulb. So far I don't have any plans to change the lighting since it gives us just enough lighting whether daytime or nightime.
MAKEOVER COST
So, how much did I spent for this makeover project. Including painting and miscellaneous. See details below.
PAINTING WALLS, CEILING, DOOR, WINDOW, CABINETS
Since our theme is all about Azure. I chose Blue Fantastic Megacryl from Davies Paint. Paired with flat white paint. Davies paint was easy to work with, ready to paint and dries up faster than other paints. With minimal to odorless paint that does not irritates our nose. We painted every corner of the bedroom with our own hands, well 90% by me and 10% c/o my husband. Thanks for the help (sarcastic tone... hahaha) He gave up easily. So nakatipid sa labour cost. (Oppss. wait this is not an advertisement okay).
Cost of Paint
White Megacryl Flat - P 460.00
Davies Blue Fantastic - 690.00
Total cost of makeover is at 18, 129.83 Php. I wasn't able to stand the 10K budget due to the decision to buy new furniture such, chest of drawers and invest for more additional storage and shelvings. However, I did not mind shelling out more than the budget I created because I am completely happy about the whole transformation. Achieve rin naman yung combination ng gusto namin na theme at kulay.
But what I love most about doing this and going thru this project? It is how affects our behavior and lifestyle. And it didn't happen overnight. I've spent money, time and effort to make everything in place. I thought, we should have done this project years ago, but nevertheless I am genuinely happy that we are able to meet what's in our mood board. The result was amazing! Our bedroom space looks eccentric, personalized, minimalist and functional for the three of us. Goal achieved! New skills unlocked!
Wishing next time we will be able to design and decorate a bigger space and preferably a house we can call - our own. :)
